Mahaut River, Kalinago Village

The Mahaut River (not to be confused with Mahaut River in the Village of Mahaut) in the Carib/Kalinago Territory, Saint David Parish, Dominica, is one of eight villages in the 3,700-acre Indigenous enclave along the island’s Northeast coast.

Mahaut River, a Hamlet in Kalinago Territory

The village of Mahaut River takes its name from the Mahaut River, a vital resource providing water for local agriculture and the community needs of the Kalinago.

It is part of the Kalinago Territory’s eight villages, including Sineku, St. CyrGaulette River, Salybia, Bataka, Crayfish River, and Concord. It’s only a few minutes away attractions like the Jolly John Memorial Park and Kalinago Barana Autê, with the East Coast Road running through it.

Efforts to enhance environmental sustainability and agricultural productivity around Mahaut River are ongoing, supported by local and international initiatives aimed at promoting resilience and community development.
