Morne aux Diables

Morne aux Diables, or Devil’s Peak, is a dormant stratovolcano in the North of Dominica. Standing 2,826 feet tall, it is partially bordered by the Northern Link Road. This volcanic mountain is an essential feature of the island, influencing the landscape and water sources of Saint John Parish and Saint Andrew Parish.

Geological and Natural Significance

Morne aux Diables is adjacent to Bellevue Mountain and features the Morne Au Diable Crater at its base. To the south, hikers are treated to unforgettable views of Morne Brulés and Morne Destinée. The area also includes the Cold Soufriere, where volcanic activity manifests in bubbling pools of cold water. Near the mountain, Bwa Nef Falls offers an additional natural attraction that is accessible via a short hike.

The mountain is the source of numerous rivers, including the South Branch River, North River, Manicou River, Lamothe River, Demitrie River, Celestin Brenner River, Aouya River, and Balthazar River, which are crucial to the region’s ecosystem. The surrounding estates, such as Lavie Douce Estate, Rhode Estate, and La Source Estate, underscore the historical and agricultural importance of the area.
