Morne Macaque

Morne Macaque, or Morne Micotrin, is a prominent volcanic peak in Saint George Parish, Dominica. It reaches an elevation of 4,006 feet (1,221 meters), making it one of the island’s tallest mountains.

Morne Macaque Geographical Significance

Morne Macaque is part of Dominica’s central volcanic spine near significant landmarks such as Titou Gorge and Sandringham Estate. It lies within the Morne Trois Pitons National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, renowned for its rich biodiversity and geothermal features.

The slopes of Morne Macaque host Boeri Lake, the highest lake in Dominica, located 2,850 feet (869 meters) above sea level. The lake, almost circular and 117 feet deep, is fed by rainfall and runoff. The hike to Boeri Lake begins at Freshwater Lake, offering panoramic views of Dominica’s landscape. The trail is rocky and can be slippery, especially during rain.

Volcanic Activity

Morne Macaque is part of a larger volcanic complex that includes Morne Trois Pitons and other notable peaks such as Morne Anglais and Morne Watt.
