Morne Micotrin

Morne Micotrin, also known locally as Morne Macaque, is a prominent volcanic peak in Saint George Parish, Dominica. At an elevation of 4,006 feet (1,221 meters), it is one of the tallest mountains on the island.

Morne Micotrin Geographical Significance

Morne Micotrin is part of the volcanic chain that forms the backbone of Dominica. It is situated near notable landmarks such as Sandringham Estate and Titou Gorge and within the boundaries of the Morne Trois Pitons National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

One of the key features on the slopes of Morne Micotrin is Boeri Lake, the highest lake in Dominica at an altitude of 2,850 feet (869 meters). This crater lake, fed by rainfall and runoff, is accessible via a trail from Freshwater Lake and offers superb panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. The hike to Boeri Lake is a moderate walk, often shrouded in mist, providing a mystical experience.

Morne Micotrin is an andesitic lava dome and part of the larger volcanic complex that includes Morne Trois Pitons and other significant peaks such as Morne Watt and Morne Anglais.
