Morne Raquette
Morne Raquette is a village in the Saint Joseph Parish of Dominica. It is also spelt as Morne Rachette. This name derived from the French word “rachette” for prickly pear cactus. The native Caribs called prickly pear cactus “Bata”, and this is why a portion of the town is called Batalie Estate, and the bay called Batalie Bay. Meanwhile, the prickly pear cactus grows in the wild fields of the town.
Morne Racquette is situated in the slopes of Morne Jalousie, with Coulibistrie to its north and Salisbury to its south. It is represented by the same parliamentary member as part of the Salisbury constituency and locally governed by the Coulibistrie/Morne Raquette village council.
