National Export Strategy (NES)
The National Export Strategy (NES) is a critical initiative to bolster Dominica’s export capabilities and improve the island’s economic resilience. Launched in collaboration with the Dominica Export Import Agency (DEXIA) and supported by the European Union and the International Trade Centre (ITC), the NES focuses on strengthening key sectors such as agriculture, tourism, and manufacturing.
Strategic Goals and Implementation
The NES addresses the trade imbalances that have historically affected Dominica’s economy. By providing a structured framework, the strategy seeks to enhance the competitiveness of Dominican goods and services in international markets. The strategy emphasises a partnership approach, where the public and private sectors work collaboratively to achieve common objectives, including boosting exports by 50% by 2017, as part of a broader effort to contribute to the country’s economic growth and social development.
Key Components and Challenges
One of the primary goals of the NES is to improve the infrastructure and business environment necessary for increasing exports. This includes addressing challenges such as low production levels, inconsistent supply, and competitiveness issues in sectors like agriculture. The NES also aims to align Dominica’s export priorities with global market demands, ensuring that limited resources are used effectively to create the greatest impact on the economy
