OECS/USAID Model Farm
The OECS/USAID Model Farm in Londonderry, Saint Andrew Parish, Dominica, is part of a broader initiative to promote climate-smart agriculture under the Rallying the Region to Action on Climate Change (RRACC) project. This farm is designed to demonstrate sustainable practices such as renewable energy, water conservation, and bio-digesters. Through innovative systems like rainwater harvesting and drip irrigation, the farm serves as a model for agricultural resilience, showcasing how renewable resources can enhance crop yields and improve food security in Dominica. The project encourages farmers to adopt these practices to build long-term sustainability.
Agricultural and Environmental Impact
The model farm also utilizes biogas from pig waste to generate energy for heating pens and producing organic fertilizers, demonstrating a fully integrated ecosystem. The farm’s efforts are part of the ongoing commitment by the OECS and USAID to bolster Dominica’s resilience to climate change, providing farmers with the tools to ensure food and energy security.
