In recent years, the Salisbury-Grand Savanne water system has encountered significant issues, notably following Tropical Storm Erika in 2015 and Hurricane Maria in 2017. These events severely impacted the water supply, leading to periods where the source virtually dried up, causing hardships for the farming community. The Dominica Water and Sewerage Company Ltd. (DOWASCO) has been actively involved in efforts to restore and enhance the system’s resilience.

In August 2023, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Blue and Green Economy, through the Emergency Agricultural &Climate Resilience Project (EALCRP), initiated a contract with EnviroPlus Consulting Inc, a local environmental engineering firm, to restore the Salisbury Irrigation System. This project aims to better serve over 60 farmers in the Grand Savanne area, alleviating the burden of water management and improving agricultural productivity. The contract is valued at approximately EC$500,000.00 and is expected to be completed by September 2024.
