The band emerged during a period of cultural evolution in Dominica, aiming to blend traditional Caribbean rhythms with contemporary musical styles. Their first central performance was at the 1960 calypso competition during Carnival, marking their entry into the island’s vibrant music scene.

In 1961, the group adopted the name Swinging Stars, reflecting its evolving musical direction. This change coincided with its growing popularity across the Caribbean. By 1964, it had expanded its reach, performing beyond Dominica and recording in Barbados in 1967. Its single “Sparrow Party,” backed by “Tom Cat Mambo,” was among its early recordings.
