Tambour Bèlè

The Tambour Bèlè is a traditional drum central to Dominica’s Bèlè dance and music. Originating from African traditions, it is made from a hollowed-out tree trunk covered with goat skin. This drum leads the rhythm during Bèlè performances, with its beats guiding the dancers’ steps. Accompanied by other instruments like the Chak Chak (shakers) and Ting Ting (Triangle), the Tambour Bèlè plays a crucial role during celebrations like Creole Day and Independence Day, where it serves as a key cultural symbol.
