Waitukubuli National Trail Segment #7 begins in Hatton Garden and ends at First Camp; this 14-kilometre segment provides an immersive journey, hiking through some of the island’s most pristine and untouched wilderness. Overlooking Pagua Bay as the tempered waves of the Atlantic Ocean lash the Dominica Coastline, the trail ascends into the heart of Dominica’s Rugged Landscape.

Segment #7 of the Waitukubuli National Trail trail ascends, and hikers cross several rivers, including the Sainte Marie River and Marechal River, offering refreshing spots to rest and observe freshwater ecosystems. The path intersects with New Castle Road, where hikers can visit Big Mountain Farm and Captain Bruce, providing opportunities to engage with local agriculture and culture. Crossing the Crebiche (Mantipo) River, the trail continues to showcase the island’s diverse flora, including towering gommier and chatannier trees, ferns, orchids, and bromeliads.

Wildlife and Biodiversity

The Northern Forest Reserve is a significant feature of Segment #7, where hikers navigate lush montane forests home to endemic species like the Sisserou Parrot and Jaco Parrot, as well as Agoutis and Manicous. To the south, Mount Concord provides continuous views of Dominica’s terrain as the trail continues over the village of Marigot.
