Kids’ Athletic Festival

The Dominica Athletics Association (DAA) will host its Kids’ Athletics Festival on Friday, August 30, 2024, beginning at 9:00 AM at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium. This event will serve as the grand finale of the DAA Kids’ Athletics Summer Grassroots Program, a four-week initiative aimed at fostering athletic skills and promoting healthy living among local children.

The festival, which aligns with the World Athletics Kids’ Athletics framework, will feature a range of activities designed to introduce young participants to the fundamentals of athletics in a fun and engaging way. The program’s structure ensures that the children not only learn valuable skills but also develop a lasting enthusiasm for the sport.

Over the course of the program, approximately 175 children aged 4 to 14 took part in sessions held three times a week at six different clubs across the island. The initiative has been instrumental in making athletics accessible and enjoyable for young people, with the goal of laying a strong foundation for future athletic talent. The DAA hopes to inspire these young participants to follow in the footsteps of Dominica’s renowned athletes, such as Thea Lafond-Gadson, Dennick Luke, and Trenesse Hamilton.
