10 Dominicans Graduate From Universities in Cuba; Education Minister Speaks
The Minister for Education, Octavia Alfred, revealed on Monday that 10 Dominicans graduated from universities in Cuba. She said the students graduated in medicine, engineering, and technology among others. The graduates were on government scholarship to study overseas, and the education minister said she is happy that they made the country proud.
Alfred said eight of the graduates studied medicine, one studied medical imaging, and one studied engineering. She added that Dominican graduates from each faculty of the Dominica State College stand a chance for scholarship at the newest tertiary institution in the country – the American-Canadian School of Medicine at Picard, Portsmouth.
According to Alfred, the Skerrit-led administration remains committed to sponsoring brilliant students to study abroad on scholarships. She disclosed that top performers from the Dominica State College have the scholarship opportunity to study in Cuba, Mexico, Morocco, China, and the United States among other countries.
The minister said the government will continue to award overseas scholarships for fields of studies that will benefit Dominica more. He said the government has identified university courses that will benefit the country in politics, economy, technology, medicine, arts, and other fields of national importance.
She said this will boost the economic and scientific development of Dominica faster. She added that the government has prioritized some high-value careers that will drive national growth and development. According to her, the government will prioritize sponsoring students in these highlighted fields and all top academic performers have equal chances of being sponsored.
