11 Positive and Four Probable Cases of COVID-19 Numbered In Dominica
Public health officials said Dominica now has 11 positive cases of Coronavirus and four probable cases. This was revealed by Dr. Ruby Blanc, the medical director of the Dominica China Friendship Hospital, and confirmed by national epidemiologist Dr. Shalauddin Ahmed.
Dr. Ahmed revealed that 142 people were sampled and 118 tested for the pandemic. He stated that 103 of those tested were negative while 11 were positive and four labelled as inconclusive. Those inconclusive or probable ones will be re-tested to determine their actual health status with COVID-19.
Dr. Blanc of the Friendship Hospital stated that all the new cases were people who had contacts with the first two positive persons who brought the disease with them from the UK. To this end, he stated that officials of the Ministry of Health continue to trace people who had contacts with the affected persons to screen and test them for the disease.
“These five new confirmed cases, as well as the four probably cases, are all contacts of our first case,” Blanc said. “These individuals are all being isolated and cared for at the St. James Facility in Portsmouth.”
He disclosed that while the health ministry will continue to trace and contain infected people, members of the public must do their part to maintain proper hygiene, respiratory etiquette, and social distancing.
