13 to 20 Storms Predicted For an Above-Normal 2021 Hurricane Season

Senior Meteorological Officer, Marshall Alexander, has revealed that 13 to 20 storms will likely pass during this year’s hurricane season. He said the storms will be above normal this year and that up to 10 of the anticipated storms may develop into hurricanes. According to him, 3-5 of the hurricanes may become major events that could be in the categories of 3, 4, and 5.

So there is a 60 percent chance of an above-normal season, a thirty percent chance of a near-normal season, and a 10 percent chance of a below-normal season, and those predictions were made with percent accuracy,” Alexander revealed.

The senior meteorological officer explained that the average season was for 12 storms, 6 hurricanes, and 3 major hurricanes before, but this has now increased to 14 storms, 7 hurricanes, and 3 major hurricanes. He noted that major hurricanes remained the same, but named storms and hurricanes have increased due to climactic changes.

Alexander revealed that there is an update from 1991 to 2020 even though the former average was 1981 to 2010. He noted that it is the updated average that is responsible for more storms in an above-average weather season. He said warmer than average temperatures in the Atlantic Ocean is a major determinant of storms, and that predicted expectations for the warmer temperatures is the driver for this year’s above-normal hurricane season.
