15 Candidates Contest for Roseau City Council Elections from 4 Wards

Fiften candidates from four wards will be contesting the Roseau City Council elections. The four wards comprise of many areas where eligible voters can vote for their desired candidates. Acting CEO of the Roseau City Council, Thomas Baptiste, issued a breakdown of contestants and the wards they come from with further explanations on how the city mayor will emerge.

According to Baptiste, those elected to the Roseau City Council will form the ruling government of the city, with two persons qualified to be elected from each ward. Since there are four wards, a total of eight officials will be elected by their wards to serve on the city council.

Ward 1 is made up of Elm Elmshall, Turkey Lane to Castle Comfort. The candidates from this ward are –

  1. Kalisha George
  2. Ermine Renee
  3. Ken Joseph
  4. Moesha Joseph

Ward 2 is made up of Roseau Central to Palm Grove. The candidates for Ward 2 –

  1. Riah Brumant
  2. Ericson Romain
  3. Rhoda St. John
  4. Gilly Shillingford

Ward 3 is made up of Goodwill and St. Aroment. The candidates for the ward are –

  1. Jason Timothy
  2. Michael ‘Mickey‘ Moreau
  3. Sherika Winston

Ward 4 runs from Pottersville to the Glasgow Ridge. The contestants from this area are –

  1. Wayne Benjamin
  2. Sherman Boston
  3. Kimara Hurtault
  4. Marilia Adams

Baptiste explained that the Minister for Local Government Affairs will nominate another five individuals to join the eight elected from the four wards to make a total of 13 councilmembers. The entire council members will subsequently hold elections among themselves and elect a chairman who will become the Mayor of Roseau.

“Persons who are eligible to vote must be citizens of the Commonwealth of Dominica; have attained the age of 21 and upwards; and should be a resident in the city of Roseau or within the municipality of Roseau 6 months before the nomination date,” Baptiste revealed.

He counselled everyone to file out and vote for their choice candidates in various wards. Out of the contestants, Wayne Benjamin is a Bouyon artiste and Kimara Hurtault is a radio presenter. Many of the contestants have been canvassing for votes on social media with many of their supporters appealing to the general public to vote for them.

Meanwhile, Andillia St. Rose has been appointed as the Returning Officer for the Marigot constituency. She was a former Presiding Officer for Marigot since 1985 during the elections. She will be nominated for the December general elections at the Marigot Police Station on November 19. She became the choice following the resignation of Lois Bristol.
