150 Hurricane-Resilient Houses to Be Given Away to Families in Roseau Valley
One hundred and fifty hurricane-resilient houses are billed for completion in Roseau Valley. The houses will be constructed in the Morne Prosper, Wotten Waven, Trafalgar, Laudat, and Cochrane areas of the constituency.
The housing, according to Roseau Valley MP, Dr. Irving McIntyre, is being constructed by Montreal Management Construction Ltd (MMCE) and to be given away for free to families in the constituency.
The completed houses will not only provide residential shelter for family owners, they will also serve as hurricane shelters since they are built to be resident to strong weather conditions, McIntyre explained.
Meanwhile, a hurricane-resilient resource center that could serve as an emergency shelter in Trafalgar during hurricanes is scheduled for completion in August.
According to the Member of Parliament, 21 houses in Cochrane and Trafalgar are 90% complete and ready for occupancy. These are built with pre-cast concrete produced by Preconco Ltd. The 12 apartments being constructed in Lily Valley in Trafalgar will be ready for occupancy in the next 2-3 months, and they consist of nine two-bedroom and three three-bedroom apartments.
“I took a look at them and they look pretty good,” McIntyre said. “They are all hurricane-resistant housing. They are all climate-resilient, they are 90% done. All that’s left is some tiling to be done and to redirect the road.”
