19 Students Awarded Scholarships by National Cooperative Credit Union
The National Cooperative Credit Union Ltd (NCCU) has awarded scholarships to nineteen students transitioning from primary to secondary school as part of its annual Scholarship Program. This initiative, which began in 2011, provides financial assistance to help students navigate the next phase of their academic journey, while also honoring the legacy of NCCU pioneers who have contributed significantly to the credit union movement.
The scholarships are awarded for a duration of five years, ensuring ongoing support for students throughout their secondary education. In addition to the scholarships, the NCCU also offers supplementary assistance, such as providing books for students in need. For the 2023/2024 academic year, the total expenditure for the NCCU Scholarship Program amounted to $114,220.87.
During the presentation ceremony, NCCU Chief Executive Officer Curth Charles emphasized the importance of viewing these scholarships as more than just financial aid, but as an investment in the future of the recipients. He encouraged the students to see this opportunity as a stepping stone to greater achievements.
I have no doubt that each one of the scholarship recipients will accomplish remarkable success in life. You are the future leaders, innovators, and change-makers, and we are excited to see where your journey will take you. The achievements of those who have come before you remind us of the purpose behind our efforts.
Curth Charles, NCCU Chief Executive Officer
The presentation of these nineteen new scholarships brings the total number of students currently supported by the NCCU Scholarship Program to 92. Since its inception, the program has benefited over 200 students, underscoring NCCU’s commitment to fostering education and supporting the next generation of leaders in Dominica.
Charles expressed confidence in the students’ potential, noting that with hard work, determination, and the right support, they are well-equipped to succeed in their studies and achieve great success in their lives.
