19-Year-Old Samuel Nicholas Charged With Accident Death of Brian McPherson

Nineteen-year-old Samuel Nicholas of Fond Cole has been charged with the death of 37-year-old Brian McPherson of Goodwill. Nicholas hit McPherson and his wife with his truck on the night of February 27, leading to his death at the DCFH. McPherson’s wife remains hospitalized at the hospital where she is undergoing critical treatment.

According to ASP Belgrove Charles of the CID, Nicholas was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Candia Carette-George of the Roseau Magistrate Court on March 8. The suspect was charged for the murder of McPherson, a security officer, and will be tried by a jury. He is represented by Attorney-at-Law Kondwani Williams.

Murder is an indictable offence in Dominica and Nicholas was not allowed to enter a plea. The judge adjourned his case to June 21 and ordered that the suspect be remanded in prison custody. He was taken away to the Dominica State Prison. The investigating police officer if Corporal Boycott Yankey.

ASP Charles on behalf of the Dominica Police Force expressed sadness at McPherson’s death and condoled with his family.

“On behalf of the Chief of Police, gazetted Officers and rank and file of the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force (CDPF) I extend our deepest sympathy to the family of the deceased and all those affected by this incident,” Charles stated. “Also, I would like to wish God’s guidance on the family of the accused.”

McPherson’s death is the fifth murder to be recorded in Dominica in 2022.
