2016 Murder Suspect, Desmond Rocque, Granted Bail in the Sum of $300,000

Desmond Rocque has been granted bail in the sum of EC$300,000. The Montin, Grand Bay native is charged with the death of McGarvin Peters who was shot dead on May 17, 2016. Represented by Zena Moore-Dyer, Rocque appeared before a judge at the magistrate court in Roseau.

The presiding magistrate declined to grant Rocque immediate release because he expressed dissatisfaction with his surety. The magistrate said he doubts the ability of the surety to produce the suspect in court when required, and so Rocque must find another surety who is guaranteed to produce him in court before he is released on bail.

Until he produces another surety to stand in for him, Rocque must remain at the Stock Farm Prison, the magistrate said.

In addition to the EC$300,000 and surety conditions, Rocque must also surrender his travel documents and remain indoors from 7 pm to 5 am daily. He must not contact the family of McGarvin Peters or interfere with witnesses, and he must never switch residences without the court’s approval.

If Rocque is able to meet his bail conditions any time this week, then he is sure to be released by the court. Meanwhile, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) did not oppose the bail request posed by Rocque’s lawyer, attorney-at-law Zena Moore-Dyer.
