22 Students Awarded Grants: Dominica Celebrates Educational Partnership with Chinese Ambassador
In a pivotal ceremony, Education Minister Octavia Alfred extended her admiration to those embarking on the journey of higher education. Acknowledging the challenges many face, she celebrated those who courageously embrace the opportunity. Reflecting on her own hurdles, Alfred emphasized the government’s commitment to smoothing the path to college, ensuring accessibility for all. Her words echoed a resounding call not to underestimate the transformative power of education.
At this ceremony, twenty-two students from Dominica State College were honored recipients of $2,700 grants from the Embassy of the Republic of China. Minister Alfred reiterated the government’s dedication, urging students to meet these initiatives with their own commitment. Notably, she commended China for not only contributing to physical infrastructure but for investing in the development of individuals.
Ambassador H.E Lin Xianjiang, recognizing the important role of the youth, pledged continued sponsorship and expressed gratitude, labeling Dominica as China’s “best friend” in the region. Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, acknowledging the almost two-decade-long friendship between the two nations, expressed his satisfaction with China’s swift response to the government’s plea for student assistance.
The ceremony served as a powerful testament to the shared commitment of both governments to education, encapsulating the profound friendship between Dominica and China in the celebration of knowledge and opportunity.
