The Dominica State College (DSC) has graduated 299 students during its recent 19th commencement ceremony at the Windsor Park. Honourable Cassani Laville was the guest speaker at the event and he urged the graduates to overcome their limitations and become national icons.
Laville tasked the graduates to make the best use of their academic knowledge in their professional fields. He said the graduates must learn to stand tall and to dream big, adding that self-worth and sharpened skills are essential to succeeding in life.
DSC President, Dr. Donald Peters, said the graduates are entering the career world at a time when the world needs them most. He said the COVID-19 pandemic has created a lot of employment opportunities that must be filled by clever people who could see through the fog.
Meanwhile, Khahill-Akil Richards has emerged the best graduating student at this year’s valedictory ceremony. He excelled in Mathematics, Chemistry, and Biology. Richards said the journey to academic excellence is not easy, and that one of the popular quotes of former South African President Nelson Mandela kept him going.
According to Richards, the quote is that “education is the first step for people to gain knowledge, critical thinking, empowerment and skills needed to make this world a better place”. He equally thanked DSC lecturers and parents who helped to facilitate the education and subsequent graduation of the class of 2021.
