3 Years After the Accidental Death of Kurt Mathew, Police Arrest Offender

The police have arrested Andy Esprit for the 2017 auto crash death of DBS Radio personality, Kurt Mathew. Esprit, of Campbell, had on November 26, 2017, hit Mathew with his car while the radio personality was about to enter into another parked car. The incident happened along EO Leblanc Highway in Canefield at about 9:15 pm.

According to the police report, Esprit was driving a vehicle with HE213 registration plate number but lost control and fatally hit Mathew who was about to enter another parked car with registration plate number TE348. Mathew was rushed to the Princess Margaret Hospital to be treated for the fatal injuries sustained in the crash, but he gave up the ghost after doctors attended to him.

Mathew, 48, was a popular radio personality who worked hard to keep DBS Radio operative following the damages caused by Hurricane Maria. His sudden death was a rude shock to thousands of radio fans and he was greatly mourned by everyone across Dominica.

Following his arrest and arraignment at a Roseau magistrate court, Esprit was granted bail in the sum of $50,000 and his father, Aries, stood in as his surety. The case was adjourned to February 8, 2021, and he must report weekly to the Mahaut Police Station to guarantee that he has not jumped bail or fled the country. Esprit is represented by Wayne Norde, an attorney at law.
