$400,000 Spent On Windsor Stadium in Readiness for West Indies-Bangladesh
The Sports Ministry has invested more than $400,000 into renovating the Windsor Park Sports Stadium in readiness for the West Indies vs. Bangladesh cricket tournament on July 2-3. According to the Minister of Sports, Roselyn Paul, the T20 cricket game is put together by Discover Dominica Authority (DDA) and the Dominica Cricket Association (DCA).
Paul said the expenditure covers erecting structures at the stadium, developing programmes, and setting up facilities that will facilitate the international cricket game. She added that the government is using the upcoming cricket tournament to showcase the tourism sector so that viewers from around the world can also see the beauty and hospitality of Dominica through their TV screens.
The sports minister further stated refurbishing the Windsor stadium will equally establish Dominica as suitable for hosting future international sporting events. She added that creating the National Sports Council is currently in progress and that the sports ministry is strenghtening sports and club committees in the country.
The minister said everyone will be allowed to watch the games at the stadium – both vaccinated and unvaccinated folks – but everyone will be subject to COVID-19 health and safety protocols such as wearing of face masks and hand sanitization. To give all Dominicans a fair chance at participating in the games, Paul said senior citizens above the age of 65 and children under the age of 12 will be given 50% discount on ticket fees into the stadium.
