58-Year-Old Guadeloupe Returnee Tests Positive for COVID-19; Total 33
A 58-year-old woman who just returned from Guadeloupe on October 4 has tested positive for COVID-19 on October 12. The unnamed woman tested negative for the disease before arrival in Dominica, but she tested positive during 14 days of quarantine at a government facility. This new development was announced by national epidemiologist Dr. Shallaudin Ahmed.
Ahmed said there is now a total of 33 positive cases of coronavirus in Dominica. He revealed that the Guadeloupe returnee had contact with only one individual who is asymptomatic at the moment. He said the contact will be subjected to further tests to determine is COVID-19 status.
“In summary, as at today October 14, 2020, the total number of confirmed cases is 33, total active cases are now 4, zero deaths,” Dr. Ahmed explained. “Only one contact of the recent case is under investigation and all other contacts were tested negative. Presently there is no evidence of community transmission.”
The government of Dominica continues to increase security at the national borders and close back-door avenues through which illegal immigrants could enter or leave the country without official authorization. It is believed that illegal entrants could test positive for the disease and infect others within the community without knowing it until it is too late; hence the government resolve to stop unauthorized entries into the country.
