70-Year-Old Person Tests Positive to Become 12th COVID-19 Case in Dominica

The 12th case of COVID-19 infection has been reported in Dominica. The individual is a 70-year-old individual who is now hospitalized and undergoing treatment. This fact was revealed by national epidemiologist Dr. Shalauddin Ahmed at a recent press conference.

The epidemiologist stated that this recent case makes a third index case in the country. From these three index cases, a total of 37 persons who had contact with them have been traced and reached. Of these persons, 17 were tested and nine tested positive and eight tested negative and 20 have pending status. Some of those that tested positive do not exhibit any symptoms as at yet.

The nine that tested positive are now admitted to hospital and doing fine, Ahmed said. Meanwhile, 29 people who had contacts with the nine that tested positive have been traced out and the 24 who were tested among them are negative. But then, all the negative contacts will remain in home quarantine for 14 days to evaluate their coronavirus status. 

Health authorities said a total of 185 COVID-19 tests have been conducted in Dominica and 173 of them are negative while 12 tested positive. No coronavirus death has been reported on the island yet and the government continues to do all in its power to contain the spread of the virus by asking people to stay at home and observe proper hygiene, social distancing, and respiratory etiquette.
