$950 Million to Be Invested In New Hotels and Resorts; 971 Jobs to Be Created

The Minister of Tourism, Denise Charles, has revealed that seven new hotels and resorts are to be constructed in the country. The project will gulp about EC$950 million which will be funded by the CBI programme, but it is estimated that 470 construction jobs and 791 permanent jobs will be created when the hotels and resorts become operational.

Charles said hotels and resorts drive economic growth and national development and therefore necessary to be embarked upon by the government. She stated that short-term and long-term jobs at various skillsets will be created during the execution of the projects and when they kick off to the advantage of Dominicans. She added that the demands for goods and services will increase when the hotels launches and the tourism sector will be revitalized as a result.

The minister of tourism further announced that the Anichi Resort and Spa in Portsmouth and the Tranquility Beach Dominica in Salisbury will be among five 5-star resorts to be completed by 2022 in the country. The Anichi Resort will have 121 guest rooms and the Tranquility Beach will feature 48 condos, two penthouses, and four villas. There are also Jungle Bay Resort and Spa in Soufriere and Secret Bay in Portsmouth. Jungle Bay will create 120 new jobs after completion and Secret Bay will have 160 jobs during construction and 123 jobs after completion.

According to Charles, Invest Dominica Authority and AID Bank will also finance the construction of Villa Copthall, Coulibri Ridge, and expansion of Fort Young Hotel from private investments. The three properties will be completed by 2022 and $76 million has been invested into the economy to facilitate the project which is estimated to provide more than 200 jobs. The minister said the tourism industry will continue to grow in leaps and bounds once the government and people embrace new innovations in the sector.
