A New NGO, NJAM, Established to Foster Alternative Political Expressions
A new NGO has been formed to foster alternative political expressions in the country. The National Joint Action Movement (NJAM) was established to enable political dissenters to air their views without fear and to encourage the citizenry to challenge the social, political, and economic trajectory of the country.
This fact was disclosed by Bernard Alleyne, one of the founding members of the new organization. Although he failed to reveal the list of people behind the new group, Alleyne said the organization is focused at returning power to the hands of the populace through peaceful dialogue, freedom of assembly and speech, as well as provide a level playing field for democratic involvement in the country.
NJAM is coming from a situation where a few of us have decided to meet on the present realities by leading the debate and proffer solutions to certain problems in the country since Dominica has become polarized and people support political parties sheepishly.
Bernard Alleyne
“The government of the day does not encourage political debates in a responsible way, and so we have seen there’s need for a group that will somehow allow for that to happen in a responsible fashion and for people to become part of that group without feeling they have to support any particular political ideology or a political persuasion…” Alleyne clarified.
