Active COVID-19 Cases Now Seven; Govt Outlines Steps for Arrival to Island

National epidemiologist, Dr. Shalauddin Ahmed, has announced the occurrence of yet another COVID-19 case in Dominica, bringing the total number of active cases to seven and the total positive cases in the country to 31. He said the country has identified 13 new coronavirus cases since the national borders were reopened months ago, adding that the ages of the positive cases range from 2-59 years.

Dr. Ahmed revealed that 10 of the 13 cases witnessed since border reopening were imported from overseas, and that only one of the 13 cases is symptomatic with shortness of breath while the remaining 12 are asymptomatic. He further added that 87 contacts were traced from these 13 cases and that only three of them are positive for the disease.

According to the national epidemiologist, six of the new cases have recovered from the disease while seven are still in quarantine at the government COVID-19 treatment centre. He made it clear that the infection rate is sporadic from foreign travelers coming into the country, and that there is no community transmission of coronavirus in Dominica.

To this extent, the top health official advised people coming into the country to fill out the online health questionnaire and have it submitted no later than 6 a.m. on the actual day of their arrival to the island. He said travellers who submitted their online forms will receive a response clearing them for arrival, and also gave out the emails of people to contact in case of any further help.

“All travellers coming to stay, stay meaning including overnight stay, in Dominica, are required to complete the online health questionnaire,” Dr. Ahmed advised. “If the individual doesn’t receive a reply after successfully submitting his/her questionnaire by 10:00PM, that is the night prior to the time of travel or arrival day, they are asked to send an email to ahms71@gmail.com,.”
