Adis King Says Women Are Resource Managers and Agents of National Change
Minister for Gender Affairs, Dr. Adis King, said Dominican women are natural resource managers and agents of national change. She stated this at a programme organized by the Ministry for Youth Development and Gender Affairs in celebration of the International Women’s Day held recently.
The programme featured the 7th Annual Exceptional Women’s Award where four outstanding Dominican women were honoured. The women are Adelina Destouche who was honoured for empowering people against disaster; Annaclette Thomas for community development; and Onia Charles and Alberta Sorhaindo for agriculture and food security.
According to Dr. King, women must be recognized and continually honoured for their commitments to reshaping family and national lives. She said women are naturally equipped to serve as the bedrock of the nation and backbone of families. She noted that the contributions of women to nation-building cannot be overlooked, adding that they leverage their strengths to create a sustainable future for everyone.
The women here today are our unsung heroes of our rural communities. We hope their stories can be an inspiration to many of you.

The Minister for Public Works, Cassani Laville, assured that the Skerrit administration remains committed to upholding the dignity of women and working assiduously to implement structures that will protect them against gender abuse, social inequality, and career discrimination. He added that the government will increase access to opportunities by breaking the cultural biases against them in Dominica.
At the national level, we are also creating greater access for women in public sector management. We are seeing more women entering the entrepreneurship space and inspiring others in their circle to become more productive.
Hon. Cassani Laville, Minister for Public Works
