AG Levi Peter Advocates for Unified Approach in Advancing Electoral Reform in Dominica
Recognizing the diversity and variety within Dominica, Attorney General Levi Peter called for a unified approach.
We may have different colours, different stripes, different religions, different political parties, different football and cricket teams, and other differences. Yet, when the next election arrives, we should all fight fiercely, but within the electoral system’s guidelines. That is what the electoral process in a democracy is about.

Renowned Caribbean Jurist, Sir Dennis Byron, was tasked by the Government of Dominica as the sole commissioner to spearhead the country’s electoral reform initiatives. Last week, during a meeting held at the State House Conference Centre, he unveiled the final document for these reforms.
AG Levi Peter then reflected on this significant event.
The ultimate aim is to come together as a unified nation after the election, to collectively strive for the betterment of our nation. I hope we all genuinely and earnestly wish to cross the hurdle of electoral reform and reach a stage where we can confidently participate in the electoral process as one people.

He further clarified that despite the fierce competition during elections, there must be magnanimous acceptance of the results, recognizing and accepting the winner for the collective effort to develop Dominica. He concluded by reiterating the government’s vision to create a conducive environment for all to engage sincerely in the process of electoral reform or modernization in Dominica. This, he said, is the government’s goal in pursuing electoral reform.
