ALBA Games: Dominica Wins Two Gold, One Silver, and Four Bronze Medals
The Dominican contingent at the ALBA Games in Venezuela ended the games with eight (8) Medals.
- 2 Gold Medals and 1 Bronze Medal in Domino.
- 1 Silver Medal in Boxing.
- 1 Bronze Medal Girls Football.
- 3 Bronze Medals in Track and Field.
The combined team of Lisa Boston and Yarilys Diaz won gold in domino on Thursday when they beat Venezuela. The second Dominican team of Jane Remie and Sandra Robin came fourth in their match of domino.
For the silver medal, Delroy Jno Charles beat Nicaraguan boxer Silva Jorge last Monday, but lost out to Duvergel Yoel of Cuba on Wednesday – a loss that cost him the gold medal. Charles got the nickname “Giant Slayer” because both Jorge and Yoel towered high above him but he managed to hold his own in the games.
High jumper Phillip Nathan Telemacque won bronze when he jumped 1.90 meters in the men’s high jump final, while Addison James won bronze in men’s javelin after throwing 51.97 meters with an 800 gram javelin. James won gold at the CARIFTA games last year.
The girls also came third in football to win third position and a bronze medal. Dominica looked forward to playing Nicaragua in football on Friday. The entire athletes aim to win more medals for Dominica before the tournament comes to an end.
