Almost 14,000 People Vaccinated, PM Skerrit Wants the Number Tripled
PM Roosevelt Skerrit announced that almost 14,000 people have been vaccinated with the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine in Dominica. He said he wants the number doubled in the country and replicated in other surrounding Caribbean nations. He said the vaccine is enough to go around and that Sinopharm vaccine donated by China is suitable for children age three years and above.
Skerrit said the health ministry is currently considering the protocols for administering the Sinopharm vaccine to children three and above years of age. The prime minister made it clear that it is important that everyone in Dominica gets vaccinated since this is necessary to eliminate the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
“I want us to avail ourselves to be vaccinated,” he said. “This is not an ideological debate, it is not a physiological debate, and it is not a debate in futility. This is a serious matter; this is about an effort at combating the spread of COVID-19.”
Skerrit said vaccination is crucial to the economic survival of Dominica and of the Caribbean and the entire world. He said everyone must avail themselves of the vaccination opportunity since this will restore normalcy to the country. He noted that he is aware of the severe restrictions the pandemic has placed on individuals and businesses within the country, but widespread vaccination will ease the condition once everyone gets a shot. The DLP leader also urged people in other Caribbean nations to get inoculated with a view to safeguarding the entire region from the scourge of the pandemic.
