Alvin Thomas, Marceline Edwards, and Bernard Hurtault Criticize Skerrit Govt

A former DPSU general-secretary and DFP member, Alvin Thomas, and DFP leader Bernard Hurtault have criticized the Skerrit-led administration on bad governance. They are joined by the president of Dominicans for Democracy group, Marceline Edwards, to get the current administration to be more citizen-oriented.

Thomas blamed the DLP government for abusing electoral laws and engaging in electoral fraud to the detriment of the entire citizenry. He said government corruption started with usurping the electoral system and manipulating it to win polls at general elections. He said the Skerrit administration remains in power through several general elections as a result of grand fraud and electoral corruption.

Edwards credited the current administration for fighting the COVID-19 pandemic and doing everything to curtail its spread. But he lamented that the government has not deemed it fit to empower the people through a national stimulus package. He stated that CBI revenue is sufficient to provide a substantial stimulus package that will boost the economic situation of citizens across the country.

Hurtault tasked Dominicans to begin to hold their elected leaders accountable in terms of public governance. He said that unless immunity clauses are removed, public officials will not respect the desires and aspirations of the local people and this will cause sustained decay in national polity. He said public office holders should no longer be viewed as persons of good character and honour, but as persons who are accountable to the electorates and liable to prosecution for lack of performance.
