Analysts Compare Current DLP under PM Skerrit with That under PM Douglas
Political analysts compared the current DLP administration under PM Roosevelt Skerrit with that under former PM Roosevelt Douglas. Attorney Bernard Wiltshire; former DLP Press Secretary Sean Douglas; daughter of former PM Roosevelt Douglas, Debbie Douglas; and Justice Dr. Irving Andre all scored the current DLP administration low in comparision with the DLP under the former prime minister.
Bernard Wiltshare who worked closely with the late PM Douglas when he led the DLP party said the late leader shunned every idea of personal wealth, unlike the present PM who amasses wealth around the world. He said late Prime Minister Edward Oliver LeBlanc from Vieille Case community, also disdained personal wealth; while the current prime minister who is also from the same community said he would never return there as a poor man.
Wiltshire apportioned some blame to former PM Roosevelt Douglas who as the leader of the DLP went ahead to bring up the current PM Skerrit from the Dominica Freedom Party (DFP) to join the DLP. He said the former DLP was upright and fought against injustices and oppression, but bringing a former DFP man into the DLP has tainted the latter party under Skerrit.
Meanwhile, former DLP Press Secretary Sean Douglas under the late PM Douglas, said the old DLP was all about transparency and openness while the latter DLP is all about shadiness and mistrust. He credited the late DLP leader with using the party to clean up the government, while the current leader has made himself a totalitarian and authoritarian dictator. He blamed the current DLP for deviating totally from the foundation laid by the old DLP founders under Douglas and LeBlanc.
Daughter of former PM Roosevelt Douglas, Debbie Douglas, has sided with Justice Dr. Irving Andre that the current DLP administration is a far cry from the legacies her father established for the party. She expressed dismay that her late father would be appalled with what is currently going on in the country. Debbie said her father stood for truth and progress, unlike what is currently being witness in Dominica today.
According to Dr. Andre and Debbie Douglas, Dominicans are hungry for true transformations and need real change in the next government dispensation. Douglas reiterated the words of her father that “Dominica is made up of Dominicans at home and abroad”, and called on all Dominicans in the diaspora to collectively resurrect the dreams of Dominica’s founding fathers to make the country the greatest in the Caribbean.
