It is the responsibility of those who are in positions of leadership to speak out on issues that affect the people. The untimely death of Kerwin Prosper ‘aka’ Slobby of Kings Hill, while in police custody on a burglary investigation, is quite concerning. The Kings Hill community is deeply affected by this tragic loss of one of their own.
On behalf of the Alternative Peoples’ Party (APP), I offer our deepest condolences to the family, relatives and friends of the deceased. On my behalf, as well, I would like to express my heartfelt sympathy because Slobby is someone whom I knew personally. Most times when we met, we would speak both on a personal and local level. His death presents a sad occasion for our communities.
This is the second such occurrence in a little over 6 years, following the sudden death of Joshua Etienne of Picard, while in the police cell at Portsmouth on possession of ammunition investigation. In normal circumstances, these detentions would not result in the death of the suspect, and we are rightfully concerned that the life of another young man was cut short while in police custody.
Our Movement of Mothers (MoM) Initiative would like to appeal for a thorough investigation of the recent incident with the view to providing closure to the grieving family and the wider Kings Hill and Newtown communities. In keeping with our vision, which is to build healthier communities on Love, Compassion and Care,’ APP’s MoM Initiative stands ready and willing to assist with promoting the better police-community relationship.
We hope that justice will be served.
