ASP Claude Weekes to Retire in March 2024 after 40 Years in Police Business

Assistant Superintendent of Police Claude Weekes has embarked on pre-retirement leave. His leave started today (August 8th) and he will officially retire from the police force in March 2024. Weekes joined the police service on August 15, 1983, and following 40 years of distinguished service, he will be retiring next year.

A senior police officer who has been described as honest, fearless, outspoken, and dedicated, Weekes was promoted to the rank of a ASP in 2013 and was well on his way to becoming a Commissioner of Police before his retirement. Several judges in Dominica praised him for being an exemplary police officer and a role model in the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force (CDPF).

In 2022, High Court Judge Wynante Adrien-Roberts, said ASP Weekes was outstanding in his role as a police prosecutor and in modelling other police officers in criminal court sessions. Justice Thomas Astaphan also credited the retiring police officer on discipline and commitment to service, saying he was someone to be emulated. Former High Court Judge Errol Thomas also has high praise for Weekes.

A Christian and evangelist who became born-again 21 years ago, Weekes said he has been able to excel in police business because of God’s help. He said there were several upheaveals and challenge in his job, but he was able to overcome them all with a positive mind and confidence in God.

“I thank my God for allowing me to serve this country and its people with distinction,” he said. “I am of the view that I gave unstinting, uncompromising, bold, diligent, and professional service with humility and peace of mind…dynamism and professionalism in executing the work.

“I served with joy, love, humility, strictness, uncompromising, unashamed, I enjoyed every part of it…there were times of disappointment and even denigration when you are overlooked, cast aside, and dejection; but, I understood that well because our Jesus went through that and, if we are following Christ there have to be a cost.”
