Atherton Martin, Johnson Boston, Val Cuffy, Others Indict the DLP Govt.
A cross-section of highly-placed Dominicans continues to discredit the DLP administration for what they termed as corruption and political failure. Former Minister of Agriculture and agronomist Atherton Martin, President of the Dominica Freedom Party (DFP) Johnson Boston, and businessman Val Cuffy among others said the current government has disappointed the people in all areas of public representation.
Speaking on the Aljazeera video documentary which indicts the Dominican leadership and governments of other Caribbean nations of selling diplomatic appointments to foreigners in return for huge money, Atherton Martin contends that the DLP administration soiled the country’s reputation in the international community.
He went further to state that corruption and bribery is not limited to Dominica alone, but to the entire OECS and CARICOM states where the ancestral Caribbean heritage has become bastardized. He blamed other Caribbean countries for maintaining silence in the face of injustices and oppressions in Dominica, saying their silence constitutes criminality that cannot be measured in monetary terms, but rather a damage to the common ancestry of the Caribbean people.
DFP President Johnson Boston condemned the political campaigns conducted by the DLP in readiness for the coming elections, saying it is rather a Festival of Sewo and nothing more. The party leader said he cannot understand how a serious democratic government can cram 15 years of development into 5 years of seeming progress. He urged Dominicans to review the current administration in the light of past activities and then vote for the UWP which promises better life for the people.
Businessman Val Cuffy said he has evidence that the DLP expended over $4 million to ensure electoral victory on December 6. He said this figure does not include bribes or monies passed under the table which the government has spent in recent months to ensure their victory at the polls. He captioned this development as the love of self over the love of country, saying it is the bane of corruption and underdevelopment in Dominica.
