Atherton Martin Urges Pastors and Priests to Join Weekly Wednesday Walks
Political activist and organizer of the weekly walk for justice, Atherton Martin, has urged leaders of religious organizations in Dominica to join up. Martin said pastors, priests, and other religious leaders should join his Wednesday street walks to campaign for better government in the country.
Tagged “March for Peace, Justice and Prosperity,” the fifth walk might even include Dr. Thomson Fontaine who is currently on conditional bail following his arrest at re-entering Dominica.
Martin said his weekly walk for peace has been fruitful and uneventful so far, and urged Dominicans to troop out to participate in the Wednesday street processions in Roseau. While commending people who have been joining in the weekly walks, Martin said religious leaders could sway public opinions if they took part in the weekly exercise.
We have been begging the Men of God…the pastors and the priests…to come and join us. These are your people, some of them come to your church – and we are asking them as Men of God to come to the meeting…and bring your presence among the people.
Atherton Martin
Meanwhile, Roseau North MP Daniel Lugay, has called on all Dominicans everywhere to participate in the street walks. The parliamentarians said the walk will draw public attention to the poor state of things in the country, and it will ginger the DLP administration to be more responsive and accountable to the citizenry.
