Atlee Patrick Rodney, a Dominican, has been appointed as the new Police Commissioner in Antigua and Barbuda. Rodney now heads the Royal Police Force after replacing former Commissioner Wendel Robinson who was dismissed for gross misconducts.
The Police Service Commission (PSC) confirmed Rodney’s appointment as commissioner of police effective from November 25, 2019. The new police commissioner had been working in that capacity for 22 months before his confirmation. He has served 38 years in the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda and grew through the ranks to his present position.
Rodney hails from the village of Savanne Paille near Tan-Tan in the north of Dominica. Following his appointment, he charged police officers to intensify their efforts at making Antigua and Barbuda safe for all. He pledged to discharge his duties without fear or favour, and promised to meet the security needs of everyone in the northern Leeward Islands country.
Rodney got his chance at his present position when Wendel Robinson, born in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, was suspended in April 2018. The PSC charged the former commissioner with sexual abuse of junior male officers and conducted internal investigations which indicted him and ultimately led to his dismissal from the Force.
