Attorney General Clarifies Essentials of Lockdown and Curfew
Attorney General Levi Peter has clarified what constitutes essentials of the current lockdown and curfew in their extended forms. At a recent health briefing, Peter said the lockdown will run for five straight days and will terminate on Tuesday, April 14 at 6 a.m. During this period, everyone will be expected to remain indoors except they are on essential duties or have the permission of the Commissioner of Police to step out into the streets.
Those who are considered as being on essential services are –
- Police officers
- State prison officials
- Members of the judiciary
- Officials of the Department of Social Services
- Environmental health service officials
- Custom and excise officers
- Staffs of the Office of the Accountant-General
- Members of the Inland Revenue Division
- Waste disposal and sanitation companies
- Healthcare professionals and hospital staffs
- Members of the media, water, electricity, and communication organizations
- Staffs of the air and ports authority
There will be absolute lockdown on weekends and curfews on weekdays shall be from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Meanwhile, police authorities report that they have arrested nine persons for violating the curfew order and roaming the streets for no just cause. The nine men are from Independence Street, Fond Cole, and Loubiere. They have also been charged to court under the new Emergency Powers (Curfew) and will soon be arraigned before a magistrate.
