The opposition party in Dominica continues to lambast the current administration on various aspects of government that they find questionable. Following the release of the National Audit Report, members of the opposition said it is obvious from the public document that the DLP government is mismanaging the country’s resources. They cite the audit report and CBI programme and other government initiatives as proof of their disgruntlement.
Former IMF economist, Dr. Thompson Fontaine, seized upon the release of the National Audit Report to berate the Skerrit-led government on financial corruption and economic sabotage. He accused the government of selling their conscience and selling the economic futures of all Dominicans through embezzlement and opaque fiscal projects. He called for financial accountability and transparency to salvage the economic potential of Dominica.
Roseau North Constituency parliamentarian, Daniel Lugay, said the findings from the auditor’s office indicated a conspiracy within the government to shut down the nation’s economy. Lugay noted that while most members of the population may suffer the ineptitude of the government in silence, it behooves the opposition party to speak out and expose any country that may put the country on the brink of collapse. He also thanked the Director of Audit for his professionalism in producing the report.
Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Lennox Linton who had earlier condemned the government over the national audit report lent his voice to the CBI tirade. He censured the Skerrit government for allegedly embezzling $4.2 billion in CBI revenue which remains unaccounted for, and for impoverishing the economy despite huge and attractive CBI receipts. Linton also accused the government of holding the major bulk of CBI funds outside of the consolidated fund and away from Dominica, adding that this situation will not bode well for the entire nation.
