Billy Doctrove Says Dominica Will Perform Well At Olympic Games in Japan

President of the Dominica Olympic Committee, Billy Doctrove, has expressed optimism that Dominica will come tops at the forthcoming 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games in Japan. He revealed that Dominica will be represented by Thea Lafond in Triple Jump and Dennick Luke in Athletics. Lafond was a 2018 Commonwealth Games bronze medalist while Luke is a formidable athlete on the tracks.

The games will kick off on July 23 and end on August 8. Doctrove revealed that no spectators will be allowed to be at the competition live – due to COVID-19 restrictions – but everyone could watch it from their homes via satellite TV. However, the Japanese government has put a lot of safety and health protocols in place to protect athletes and game officials who will be officiating at the competition in various capacities.

The Dominican team will be led by the Chef de Mission and COVID Liaison Officer, Woody Lawrence, Coach Aaron Gadson, physiotherapist Kala Flagg, DOC President Billy Doctrove, current Athlete Representative and Acting Secretary General Brendan Williams, and Press Attaché Garvin Richards.

Lafond and Luke will compete on July 31 in the first round of their events, according to Doctrove. He also stated that the government will soon announce the ways that people in the country can watch the games as it progresses in Tokyo via live television.
