By-Election to Fill One Village Council Position Holds in Marigot

Marigot residents go to the polls today to fill one vacant village council position. This was revealed by village council member Brian Linton who urged all residents to troop out for the voting exercise. He said the voting will start at 8 a.m. and end by 4 p.m.

Linton disclosed that three nominees are available for the position but only one winner can fill the position. He said the by-election is to replace Mrs. Lovette Charles. He cautioned voters to vote for only one candidate on the ballot paper so as not to invalidate their votes. He said Marigot residents must vote according to their conscience and vote for their best potential representative.

There is a by-election today. The polls open at 8 O’clock and close by 4 O’clock this afternoon. The election will be to replace Mrs. Lovette Charles – three persons have been nominated for the position but only one can emerge the winner.

In a related development, former DPSU general secretary Alvin Thomas reiterated his call for electoral reform in Dominica. He said there must be fair elections, effective electoral reforms, transparent campaign finance, and valid voting processes. The former agriculture statistician said reforming electoral laws and processes in the country are the only guarantee for a corruption-free society.
