An alarming shooting incident at the Jimmit residence of local calypsonian Narrin “Trendsetter” Murphy has sparked a police investigation. Around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, multiple gunshots were fired at Murphy’s vehicle, parked outside his home. Fortunately, Murphy was inside his residence at the time and was unharmed.
The Mahaut Police and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) are actively investigating the case. Authorities are urging anyone with information to assist in identifying those responsible. Witnesses or individuals who observed unusual activity in the area during the early hours are encouraged to contact the Mahaut Police Station or anonymously report tips to Crime Stoppers at 1800-8477.
Murphy, also an employee of the National Bank of Dominica, took to Facebook on Sunday to express his resolve in the face of the attack. Describing the act as cowardly, he emphasized that it had only strengthened his determination. He revealed that nine bullets struck his car and condemned the attack as an attempt to instill fear, which, according to him, failed.
The calypsonian recently debuted his first calypso for the 2025 and received an outpouring of support from fans and friends after the incident. He shared his gratitude for their messages and calls, expressing disappointment in the distress caused to his loved ones.
Murphy reaffirmed his belief in justice and addressed the attackers directly, warning that their actions would eventually catch up with them. Despite the trauma, he remains committed to his passion for calypso, embodying resilience as he prepares to perform this season.
The shooting weighs heavily the growing concerns about safety and violence, and Murphy’s determination serves as a show of strength for his supporters as authorities work to bring the perpetrators to justice.
