Cardiology Dept Opens At DCFH; Mcintyre Says Sophisticated Equipment Coming

The Dominica-China Friendship Hospital (DCFH) can now boast of a cardiology department. The department was officially inaugurated on May 21 even though the first cardiology surgery took place at the facility on May 7 when a temporary pacemaker was successfully implanted into a patient suffering from severe bradycardia (abnormally slow heart rate).

Health Minister Irving McIntyre said the new cardiology department will be much bigger in 5-10 years when complex machines will have been installed for operational use. He compared the new DCFH to his time at the PMH and said his former workplace did not have sophisticated medical equipment like the DCFH has now. He noted that the incoming generation will be grateful for the well-equipped modern hospital.

Cardiologist Dexi Wu who performed the pacemaker surgery with a DCFH team said he is happy for the support of the government for the progress at the hospital. He said the team of expert cardiologists at the medical facility will continue to work hard to meet the health needs of Dominicans and patients from all over the Caribbean, and he urged the government to continue supporting medical advancements at DCFH.

We never stop working hard to improve our cardiology service. We would like you to keep supporting us. I am so excited you are here to witness the opening of the first Cardiology Department in Dominica, our room is very small, but our mission is big.
