Caribbean Airlines’ Inaugural Flight to Dominica Marks Dawn of a New Day
The inaugural flight of Caribbean Airlines to Dominica on Sunday marks the dawn of a new day in the history of travel and tourism in Dominica, said the Minister for Tourism and International Transport, Denise Charles. The minister was speaking at the short ceremony staged to mark the maiden flight of Caribbean Airlines to Dominica after landing at the Douglas Charles Airport.
A display of water cannon was staged to welcome the passenger plane after landing at the airport at 10 am. The aircraft was operated by Captain Francis Harris, a native of Dominica and son of late Cozy Harris who disclosed that flying the Caribbean Airlines plane to his native country is a dream come true.
The Minister for Tourism praised the Skerrit-led administration for enabling the new airline in the country, adding that the affordability of Caribbean Airlines and its safety record are contributory to its expansive network. She said it costs only $80 to take the plane from Dominica to Antigua and $240 from Dominica to Jamaica. She stated that people will be able to fly directly from Dominica to the Port of Spain and Trinidad they fully reopen their borders.
Charles urged on all Dominicans to keep the country clean and green and to spread the word on the beauty and tourism potentials of the island to the outside world. She said with the efforts of the DLP government to repackage, rebrand, and upgrade Dominica as a tourism resort, visitors from all over the world would visit the country and this would generate revenue for the economy in many ways.
“Our island is a paradise but its beauty alone cannot capture the imagination of travelers,” Denise Charles said. “It is imperative that all stakeholders in the industry partner with us to offer our visitors an unforgettable experience. In that way we keep our airlines busy, we will have many more stay-over guests and ensure that our farmers, fisherfolks, tour operators, tourist vendors, or the many employed in this industry are earning an income.”
Captain Francis Harris expressed delight on adding Dominica to the travel routes of Caribbean Airlines, adding that “it is doubly special and a proud moment for me as a Dominican to be part of this definingly important moment.”
