CARICOM Executives Call For Solutions to Climate Change, CSME & Coronavirus

Executives of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) at the 31st Inter-sessional Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government in Barbados have called for urgent solutions to the problems of climate change, regional security, trade and tourism, CSME, and Coronavirus among others.

CARICOM’s Secretary-General, Dominican Irwin LaRocque, said all governments must harness various skills, talents, and resources in private and public sectors to construct a Caribbean community that is highly resilient in security, trade, tourism, health, and CSME. He added that it is imperative for the community to make progress with the health and security of the people as well as move ahead with the CSME objective.

“These combined and coordinated efforts will serve us in good stead as we strive to build that resilience to combat the challenges that we face, most particularly the threat of climate change…” LaRocque said.

CARICOM Chairman, Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley, urged the entire region to unite as a single-family so as to fully tackle the problems bedevilling the community together.

I want us today to remember that ‘F’ comes before ‘I’, I mean specifically, that family comes before ideology. We are family, we are kith and kin. Being kith and kin must stand for something. As a family, nothing can separate us. In Barbados, we think it is about the union. I believe, on behalf of the people of Barbados that there is always strength in unity.
