The Central Co-operative Credit Union (CCCU) Ltd has taken up the scholarship of eight deserving students to secondary school. Four of these students were chosen on merit and four chosen on need – after they passed successfully at the recently concluded Grade 6 National Assessment Examinations (G6NA).
According to CCCU executives, the four students awarded the scholarship on need will be awarded a one-time financial assistance to cover a given academic period, while those awarded the honour on merit will have their entire secondary school education financials covered.
President of the CCCU board of directors, Laurina Vidal-Telemaque, explained that the credit union has given 44 scholarships till date and that the initiative is part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to give back to the community. She encouraged the students to be hard-working since their secondary education will determine how well they succeed in future educational pursuits.
CCCU General Manager Cleo Watt also urged the students to pursue their dreams and put in their bests in their academic endeavours. He said the students must make the credit union and parents proud by how well they perform in their studies.
The two students that were awarded the secondary school scholarship based on merit are Kenilee S. Baron of St. John’s Catholic Primary School and Kermit Robinson of the Pioneer Preparatory School. The two who were awarded based on need are Samarah Volney of Goodwill Primary School and Ashton Alexander of the Clifton Primary School.
The four awarded one-time academic assistance are Gabrielle George of the St. Mary’s Primary, Christalyn Burgins of the Roseau Primary, Iwanna Timothy of the Dublanc Primary, and Jonathan A. Brumant of the St. John’s Catholic Primary School.
