Celebrating 20 Years of Youth Entrepreneurship: DYBT Awards Set for Today

The Dominica Youth Business Trust (DYBT) is set to shine a spotlight on youth entrepreneurship as it hosts its highly anticipated awards ceremony today. The event, scheduled for 6:00 PM at the State House Conference Centre, will honor individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to fostering business growth and economic empowerment among young Dominicans.

DYBT Coordinator, Phillip Rolle, confirmed that 31 awardees will be recognized for their dedication and achievements. The honorees include persistent entrepreneurs, loyal facilitators, dedicated trustees, and special contributors who have played pivotal roles in supporting youth business initiatives across the island.

In addition to celebrating individual accomplishments, the ceremony will acknowledge key donors and strategic partners whose financial and technical support have been instrumental in driving DYBT’s programs forward. “This milestone event will highlight not only our past achievements but also reinforce our vision for the future,” Rolle stated, emphasizing the Trust’s ongoing commitment to empowering young Dominicans to create and sustain thriving businesses.

Founded in 2004, the DYBT is an initiative of the Commonwealth Youth Programme (CYP) and the Government of Dominica, with backing from the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB). Its model focuses on providing young entrepreneurs with the necessary resources to establish sustainable businesses, combining support from various institutions and donors into a coordinated, efficient package of services.

The upcoming awards ceremony will mark over two decades of impact, showcasing the transformative role DYBT has played in shaping Dominica’s entrepreneurial landscape. From its first stakeholder consultation in August 2003 to its official launch in May 2004, the Trust has remained steadfast in its mission to support youth-driven business development.

As DYBT looks to the future, the organization aims to continue nurturing a culture of entrepreneurship that contributes to Dominica’s national development, with today’s ceremony serving as both a reflection on past successes and a celebration of the possibilities ahead.
